Living Room Shelves

How To Find the Best Shelves for Your Books, Collections, Music, Trophies and Pictures in Your Living Room.

Your living room is the most public room in the house. It's where you entertain, where you talk, where you invite new guests, where you sit for extended periods of time, and it's where you show who you are to everyone that comes into the house. On your living room shelves you display books that have meaning to you, where you show off trophies won in the past, where you display your favorite family pictures, and also where you house precious heirlooms, collections and knickknacks.

So the question is, are you happy with the way your living room is? If you don't have enough shelf space, or if your trophies are stuck behind 2 rows of books, or if your favorite CDs are stuck under a teetering pile of discs, we can help you to organize, redesign and beautify your living room.

Creative Ideas and Great Solutions for Living Room Shelves

The first thing you have to do is make a list of what you have in your living room right now and (more importantly) what you want in it when you're done. For example, do old magazines enhance your living room or are they clutter? Also, do you have some objects that you collected on your last vacation in a closet that you'd love to put on display in your living room? Go through everything, everywhere in the house, then decide what is on that final list.

Now that you have a clear list of what you want in your living room, it's time to start looking for the proper shelves to hold it all.

Let's start with the easier things. Bookcases are the simplest solution for housing all of the stuff that you want in your living room. They certainly have their place for housing things like books, for example. They are also great for vases and certain collections, but they are not the best choice for everything. For example, if you have a collection of very old or precious books, you might want to consider a barrister bookcase which will protect these items. Also, if you want to show off your collection of tiny glass animals, bookshelves are not designed well for this; a proper display shelf will highlight your collection much better. If you really want to show off any collection, and protect it at the same time, consider a curio cabinet. These cabinets come in all sorts of shapes colors, and packed with features, they add class to any living room.

Stereos are another example of a living room item that will benefit from proper shelving. Yes, you can stack up all of the various components of your stereo on a bookshelf, but this is wrong for a lot of reasons. Like any good picture, a stereo will look better and be better protected when housed in a properly designed media shelf. Add onto that matching CD shelves a handsome TV shelf and suddenly your whole living room will feel new.

Do you have a fireplace in your living room? Adding a beautiful mantel alone can change the entire look and feel of your living room.
